Actuarial Data Science

An initiative of the Swiss Association of Actuaries

Continuing Education

The SAA recommends the subsequent two permanent continuing education programs to fully qualified actuaries who aim to significantly enhance their practical data science skills. Both programmes consist of modules which are organized as full day seminars.

ZHAW: CAS modules "Data Science"

We recommend the CAS modules of the "MAS Data Science" offered by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), which can be combined to a DAS or MAS degree. Key information as follows:

  • Modules: 5 CAS are offered, individual CAS can be attended, and 3 CAS result in a DAS and 3 CAS and a project work result in an MAS degree
  • Teaching times: One full day per week, 17 weeks per CAS
  • Dates: September-January and February-July
  • Location: Winterthur
  • Language: German

More detailed information can be found here. There are regular information events about the programme in Zurich, see here for the upcoming dates.

As a member of the SAA  you can benefit from a 5% discount on the course fees of this course. Please mention the following in the commentary field of the registration form: "I am a member of the SAA and hence I get a discount of 5%".

"Zuerst theoretische Daten-, IT- und Statistik-Grundlagen erlernen, dann praktische Fähigkeiten in R und Python aneignen. So habe ich als erfahrener Aktuar meinen Horizont nochmals erweitern können", Roger Hämmerli, Actuary SAA

DAV: Modules "Actuarial Data Science"

We recommend the "Actuarial Data Science" training modules of the German Association of actuaries (DAV).  Key information as follows:

  • Modules: 4 modules are offered, two basic modules (ADS Basic, ADS Advanced) and two advances modules. The basic modules can be attended with or without the exams. The third and fourth module contain project work and no exam.
  • Teaching times: Three consecutive days per module plus exam
  • Dates: here
  • Location: Munich or Cologne
  • Language: German

Further information about the four ADS modules in the DAV and the objectives of the modules can be found here and here.

Currently, participants from the SAA only receive a confirmation of participation and not (yet) a certificate.
